Jane’s Walk – Exploring the Hidden Vale of Avoca Ravine

Date: Saturday, May 2, 2:00pm to 3:30pm

Meeting Point: St. Clair TTC Station, Pleasant Blvd exit

What to Expect

Discover the hidden oasis of the Vale of Avoca Ravine in midtown Toronto. A stream runs through it! Learn about the birds, rare plants and human history of one of our city’s treasures. You’ll get a firsthand view of the toll that has been taken on the ravine by channel and slope erosion and the impact of spreading invasive plants in the ravine. Restoration plans for the ravine will also be highlighted, supported by the Midtown Ravines Group. The walk will continue from Avoca through the Park Drive Ravine to the Belt Line Trail, ending up at the Brick Works where you can purchase a beverage and snack. You can take either the Brickworks shuttle bus to Broadview Station or the TTC bus to Davisville Station..

Walk leader Ian Darragh is a former editor-in-chief of Canadian Geographic and writer for National Geographic. He contributed two feature articles about Rosehill Reservoir to Spacing magazine (Spacing.ca).
