Yellow Creek Geomorphic System Master Plan

On March 5, 2025, the City published an environmental assessment that looking at the remediation of water services infrastructure emptying into Yellow Creek in the Vale of Avoca ravine. While this study is primarily concerned with the condition and renewal of storm sewer infrastructure, in the view of Midtown Ravines Group, it provides data and analysis that is invaluable for the stabilization and restoration of the entire Yellow Creek stream course.

The published study is voluminous: an overall report and over 30 appendices with data, figures, and elaboration on relevant topics. MRG views this report as a critical input for a ravine remediation master plan, but we do not believe that it warrants the label “master plan”, since it has little to say about ravine trails, ecological restoration, or even channel restoration in areas way from sewer outfalls.

MRG provided comments to the city on the GSMP report. It is our hope that steps to address water infrastructure degradation will be addressed as part of a broader effort for ravine remediation and will not be limited by the possibly extended timetable that the GSMP report set out, looking at sewerage infrastructure in isolation.
